Cooperation with local Orhodox parishes

Soarta works in close cooperation with local Orthodox parishes. Church has strong stand in Moldova: 98% of the Moldavians belongs to Church and the Church reaches out people in the remote areas. Soarta and the local parishes helps the victims of human trafficking and educates groups at risk. Soarta has wide networks with other NGO ’s working against Human Trafficking.

Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe and unemployment is high especially in the county side. The opportunities are rare and the environment gives foot hold to organized crime.

The most vulnerable groups are young women. They are usually unemployed, uneducated and poor living in remote areas. The most evident form of Human Trafficking is prostitution. Organ trade and forced labor is a thread for whole working population and has been increasing.

The project founded by Ortaid is carried out in Soroca province in North Moldova. There are many remote areas where the knowledge of the threads of Human Trafficking is non-existent.
