Aid to neighboring areas
Aid to the Karelia and to the Baltic Countries
Usually the developmental aid is perceived as work done somewhere far away. Local differences between standards of living can still be huge. Border between Finland and the Federation of Russia has huge difference. In the remote areas of the Republic of Karelia the Orthodox church is the only provider of social and material aid.
Humanitarian aid to neighboring areas is carried out by volunteer work. The aid is given in collaboration with local parishes, monasteries and convents, and local people. The other objective of the work is to empower the local people to take the responsibility them self’s.

Companionship and cultural sharing
The humanitarian aid forges also companionship and cultural sharing. Working in the Karelia we support the minorities and their cultural heritage.
The aid given is donated by Finnish parishes, entrepreuners and private citizens. The aid needed is for example school supplies, special equipment for hospitals, sanitation supplies and different things to women’s clubs and orphanage.
